A Sense of Place

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Art & Antiques commemorated creativity at the Torpedo Factory Open House Celebration last November by honoring Matthew Harwood with an Emerging Artist award. Harwood’s unique approach to landscape painting captured the attention of Editor-in-Chief Barbara Tapp, who was drawn to his work’s blend of painting and architectural modeling. Harwood’s watercolors combine an assortment of panels, each executed separately, then layered together at various depths and angles. The painter displays the resulting three-dimensional assemblages in a deep frame with inwardly beveled matting.
